Milwaukee's Shining Gem: Compass - A Giant, Glitzy Sculpture

Forget GPS, mate! Fancy a jaunt to Milwaukee and check out Compass - an art creation that'll leave ya stunned

Sitting pretty at 12 feet high and 10 feet wide, Compass can be found hidden in the heart of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Made back in 2005 by the talented Jon Barlow Hudson, this architectural wonder has been the talk of the town for both tourists and locals ever since. The sculpture features mirror-polished stainless steel tubes arranged in a circle and surrounded by four blocks of Wisconsin granite – Wausau Ruby Red, Glacial Rose, Amberg Silver Grey, and Mellen Black Gabbro.

It's like gazing upon a floating stone collage, if you catch my drift. Hudson even threw in a Chinese jade disc, which is known as 'bi' or 'pi'. This disc symbolizes unity, peace, wholeness, and heaven. Watch as pedestrians' reflections dance in the tubes – a real eye-catcher. Part of the Milwaukee Percent for Art Program, Compass is also a tribute to a Lakota Sioux Native-American tale about discovering the four points of a compass. And let me tell ya, it's quite the sight to behold.
