The Merkine Hillfort, situated southwest of Merkine church, is a significant archaeological site in Lithuania. Registered with the code A202KP, this relic dates back to the 14th-15th centuries, serving as one of the strongest pagan sites of the Nemunas river system in the country. The hillfort, which reaches heights of 30 meters and spans 150x300 meters, is known for its lack of fortifications, but the enclosure (5x7 m) once boasted a palisade, originally more than 20 meters wide. Various archaeological discoveries, such as ceramics, pottery, and clay pots, have been uncovered near the hillfort.
