Six Centuries of Krageholm Castle: Ownership and Destiny

Krageholm Castle, a historical landmark nestled in Ystad Municipality of Scania, Sweden, has borne witness to titular changes over the centuries. Originally an estate castle of the Due family in the 14th century, it was known as Krogholm during Danish times.

One of its most famous owners was Baron Jörgen Krabbe, who was charged with high treason and executed in 1679. The castle was the battleground between Swedish and Danish troops during the Scanian war, causing significant destruction.

Carl Piper purchased the castle in 1704, rebuilt and remodeled it in baroque style in the 1720s, and changed its name to Krageholm. The castle has been owned by multiple families, with the Piper family owning it twice – first from 1704 to 1897, then since 1907.
