In the film "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson," episode "The Acquaintance," the plot from Conan Doyle's story "The Speckled Band" is used, describing events taking place in the sinister estate of Dr. Roylott of Stoke Moran.

The building that served as the estate in the film is located in the resort town of Kemeri, now part of the city of Jurmala. I wrote about the history of the building itself and its architect here: "The Merry Mosquito" or the Architect of Three Dictators — there you can also see many photographs.

At one time, this was the building of the well-known restaurant "Jautrais Ods" ("The Merry Mosquito"), built in 1933 (according to Krastiņš, in 1932) based on a design by architect Friedrich Skujiņš. I will tell you more about the architect a little further below. Located in Kemeri National Park at 15 Tūristu Street (Tūristu ielā 15), the building is an example of the late National Romantic style in Latvia. The combination of stone and wooden structures, details made in the traditions of folk wooden architecture, and a thatched roof gave the building its unique and memorable appearance. Apparently, before it was a restaurant, the building served as a sports pavilion, as evidenced by old postcards from the 1930s.

During the Soviet era, a children's sanatorium was located here. Later, the building was taken over by the administration of Kemeri National Park for its needs. The building has now been fully renovated.
