Vyborgskaya St., 3, Saint Petersburg, Russia, 194044
In 1873, the 4th Male Progymnasium was opened in the house of merchant Uvarov on Simbirskaya Street. It became the first educational institution of its kind on the Vyborg Side. This state educational institution prepared students for the course of classical gymnasiums. Later, the school was renamed the St. Petersburg 1st Progymnasium. In 1899, the progymnasium was transformed into the St. Petersburg Eleventh Male Gymnasium. In 1914-1915, under the direction of architect L.P. Shishko, a dedicated building for the gymnasium was constructed on Vyborgskaya Street.
Based on the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR dated June 5, 1918, the gymnasium, along with other educational institutions, was transferred to the jurisdiction of the People's Commissariat of Education. In accordance with the Regulation on the Unified Labor School, approved by the All-Russian Central Executive Committee on September 30, 1918, the 18th Soviet Unified Labor School (later the 159th school of I and II levels) was established on the basis of the gymnasium.
In 1937, the school received its current number 107, in 1996 it was granted the status of a school-gymnasium, and in 1999 — a gymnasium.
Over the years, the following studied here: journalist and memoirist Nikolai Verzhbitsky, writers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, theater critic and publicist Mark Lyubomudrov, TV journalist and traveler Yuri Senkevich, composer Stanislav Pozhlakov, film director Yevgeny Tatarsky, actor Georgy Taratorkin, director Andrey Moguchy, journalist Alexander Malkevich, and others.
In December 2012, the administration of the municipal district "Samsonievsky" of St. Petersburg began collecting signatures for a petition to the city committee on culture for the installation of a memorial plaque on the building of Gymnasium No. 107, where the future science fiction writers studied. According to the law, the decision to install a memorial plaque can only be made 30 years after the death of the individuals in whose memory it is placed. However, in exceptional cases, the memory of St. Petersburg residents who have made a significant contribution to a particular field of activity may be commemorated earlier than this period.
The plaque has not yet been installed.
