It's speculated that these houses could have repurposed the old castle walls, with some fortified houses forming the castle's walls. Traces of fortified houses, wall bases, and entrance holes are all that remain, as the castle's most defining feature is the closed area formed by the houses. A possibility exists that it may have been a closed village rather than a castle, a phenomenon common during the late medieval era. The documentary evidence for the castle only appears from the 14th century, lending credence to this hypothesis.
