Solidars: A Grand Ode to Unity, Harmony, and Endurance in Milwaukee's Scape

Wander downtown Milwaukee and you'll stumble upon Solidars - no mere sculpture, but a gleaming tribute to unity, harmony, and endurance, standing proudly at nearly ten feet.

Way back in 1969, Edmund Lewandowski was tasked with crafting a unique treasure for the 15th anniversary of the Polish Women’s Cultural Club of Milwaukee. And boy, did he deliver. The Spirit of Polania, or Solidars, is no garden-variety metalwork. Towering on the south side of the Milwaukee County Courthouse, it occupies the corner of North 9th Street and West State Street, a striking stainless steel giant. This nine-foot, five-inch marvel flaunts three resonating, progressively sized rings, symbolizing harmony, unity, and endurance. The smallest ring sets the stage, followed by a gradual swell in size, like a symphony's crescendo. Topping it all off is a brass globe, representing the earth, bringing a sense of earthy balance to this cosmic spectacle.
