Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky was a frequent guest of the hotel. The writer stayed in the corner room 107, with windows overlooking the intersection of Italian and Mikhailovskaya streets. Dostoevsky preferred corner rooms because they are perfect for observing what is happening around, and he often placed his characters in such rooms. To this day, a massive writing desk stands in the “Dostoevsky” suite, behind which one can look out the window onto the street, just as the writer himself liked to do while working.
