Forte Poggio Pol

A restaurant-fort in Pastrengo, Italy, Forte Poggio Pol was built between 1859 and 1861 under the order of feldmaresciallo Radetzky, reflecting its rich military history.

Forte Poggio Pol, originally named Forte Nugent, is a fort built in Pastrengo, Italy, between 1859 and 1861 by K. & K.'s Genie-Direktion of Verona, under the order of feldmaresciallo Radetzky. It was part of a group of forts in Pastrengo, built to protect Verona if enemy troops managed to bypass Peschiera's defenses. Today, it houses a restaurant. Its pentagonal shape and stone walls stand as a testament to its past as a military fortress. Inside, it was once used for quarters, storage, laboratories, stables, and more, allowing soldiers to stay for relatively long periods. It had around 16 artillery pieces of various calibers, 10 of which were rifled.
