For four long years, the Oneida Football Club dominated the Boston landscape. Comprising of elite student-athletes, they were the United States' first organized football team. Despite the chaotic 'Boston game', a violent version of old-time mob football, the Oneida Club never lost a single match, not even conceding a solitary point. Throughout these years, the ball used in their matches against the English High and Boston Public Latin Schools (merged in 1863) ended up in Captain Miller's hands, eventually winding up with the Boston Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. After the Oneida disbanded in 1865, the stage was set for the Harvard University Football Club to take charge.
