A Tragic Ballet: The Denver Dancer

A Tragic Ballet: The Denver Dancer

In a Fateful Stumble of June 25, 2020, the Bronze Rider of 1909, a creation by Jack Howland, left the Colorado State Capitol for a dusty storage, only to reemerge in the swanky History Colorado Center. But that wasn't the final curtain.

Once a gilded spectacle known as the Civil War Monument, Civil War Memorial, or the Soldier’s Monument, the Denver Dancer, a sculpted wonder by Jack Howland and brought to life by the Bureau Brothers, debuted on July 24, 1909, proudly stationed before the Colorado State Capitol. However, on a bleak June 25, 2020, the equestrian suffered an unfortunate tumble. Dressed in a layer of grime after the vandalization, it found itself in storage. In a surprising turn of events on October 14, 2020, it emerged anew at the History Colorado Center. Yet, its eternal slumber remains undecided, with Lincoln Park lurking with ambitions of taking its place.
