Deep Sleep in a Victorian mine

Tanygrisiau, Blaenau Ffestiniog LL41 3TP, UK

Deep Sleep is a unique underground hotel situated in Wales, situated within the Cwmorthin quarry in Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park. Nestled 419 meters (1,375 feet) beneath the Earth's surface, this hotel proudly boasts the title of being the world's deepest accommodation. The location of the hotel was once an abandoned Victorian slate mine. Mining started here in 1810 and the works continued until the end of the 1990s. The mine was left to decay during the mid-20th century.

To access this extraordinary lodging, guests embark on a guided expedition through a Victorian-era slate mine. Before embarking on the journey, guests are equipped with essential gear, including helmets, lighting, harnesses, and boots. The path to the hotel is a challenging one, leading through a historical mine that was operational from 1810 to 1939.

Within the confines of the hotel, guests can find four private twin-bed cabins and a romantic grotto complete with a double bed.
