Fazouro's Hillfort Turned Museum: More Than a Gallic Battlefield

Located on a hill in Foz, Lugo, Spain, the Castro of Fazouro stands as one of the few surviving hillforts turned museums along the Galician Cantábrico coast. Unlike a conventional fortress, it lacks a complete wall; however, its building outlines are still discernible. The internal arrangement of these buildings, in an oval shape, once served as housing for a community, with stone benches within the structures working as resting places or work areas. The Castro of Fazouro, therefore, was not just a battlefield but a community’s home. It houses items like a bronze pin, a Clunia mint coin, and a fibula with a long belt loop. These discoveries suggest a time frame between the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century. The excavated area covers 700 square meters, dating back to the Romanization period.
