A Medieval Fort with a 1080 AD Tower: The History of Castell de Torcafeló

The Castell de Torcafeló, a medieval fort in Maçanet de la Selva, Spain, was constructed around the year 1080 AD. During the Second Carlist War, it was fortified by a group of Valencian military. By the 20th century, the castle lay abandoned until a restoration was undertaken by the Maçanetenca association of the Taller d'Història between 1985 and 1992. During this period, goigs dedicated to Saint George were published. Remarkably, archaeological artifacts dating back to the Iberian period were found during the restoration of the castle.

Excavations within the Capella de Sant Jordi, part of the Castell de Torcafeló, revealed artifacts ranging from the Iberian period to the Late Empire.
