The Last Address of Tsoi

pr-t. Veteranov, 99, Saint Petersburg, Russia, 198261

Viktor Tsoi got married, had a child, and soon stopped living with his parents. Apartment No. 101 in building 99 on Veteranov Avenue was Viktor Tsoi’s last place of residence. It belonged to the mother of his wife Maryana — Inna Nikolaevna Golubeva. Viktor Tsoi lived there with his wife Maryana and their son Sasha for about three years. Eyewitnesses describe his favorite pastime as strolling with the stroller, which he did in the nearby park. The three-room apartment where Viktor Tsoi lived is located on the 8th floor of a typical Soviet “ship” style building. The entire apartment door is covered with fan messages and pleas. It was precisely the influx of fans that became the main reason why, shortly after Viktor’s death, Maryana, her mother, and little Sasha changed their residence and moved to the center of St. Petersburg, to Kuibyshev Street.

After the musician’s death, one of the lanes in Alexandrino Park was named after him. For some unknown reason, the name “Tsoi Lane” lasted only a month before reverting to its previous name. It was in that lane that he wrote songs for albums released in the second half of the 1980s (which brought the band “Kino” all-Union fame). Now the city authorities want to erect a monument to the musician opposite this building. The project seems to have already been approved.
