BUS Vertical (Large Universal Stand) belongs to the State Optical Institute. Vertical is a large unfinished and abandoned complex. The main structure is a giant tower about 20 stories high. Construction was halted during the Perestroika years. On the abandoned site, there are also various administrative and production buildings, a railway, an abandoned and dismantled MiG-19 aircraft, which was used to test the scattering and refraction of light beams. A full inspection of the area will take at least 5-6 hours, so gather your strength and bring food and water before heading there.
There is a lot to see here: just the human-sized capsules alone, which were supposed to turn into huge lasers, or the main 20-story tower. By the way, if you climb to the roof, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the coniferous forest, the coastline, and the urban surroundings.
Security has been significantly increased — patrols have become more frequent, and service dogs have reappeared. On weekends, you can encounter cadets with weapons practicing tactical techniques and maneuvers, who also handle visitors they meet.
