Nestled on Commonwealth Avenue, this 7-foot-six-inch tall bronze statue of our one-of-a-kind Pat Collins is pretty hard to miss. Counted among Boston's elite, it was first installed in 1908, shifted in 1966, and stands grandly on a granite pedestal. The bronze-clad Pat is flanked by symbols of America and Ireland, making quite the striking ensemble. And let's not forget the pedestal itself - stretching a whopping 11 feet 6 inches long, 10 feet 1 inch wide, and 6 feet 8 inches high. This larger-than-life sculpture got the thumbs-up from the Smithsonian Institution’s 'Save Outdoor Sculpture!' program back in 1993. A man of the people, Pat served as Boston’s mayor from 1889 to 1912 and as a US congressman from 1883 until his demise in 1905. Call it an understatement, but it's safe to say Pat put his stamp on the city.
