More than three decades ago, an American artist named Richard Lippold whipped up a masterpiece called Stasis, right in 1988. This surprising sculpture has spent its life at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, adding a touch of abstract elegance while exuding a lived-in charm. Over the years, its metal planes have gathered the warm Wisconsin sun, like a trophy standing proud. Originally installed in the west courtyard of the Alumni Memorial Union, Stasis is now snuggled up in Marquette's Haggerty Museum of Art. Unlike fancy art, it simply showcases staunch metal shapes, undisturbed by the sturdy concrete pillar supporting it. It's as tall and quiet as Wisconsin herself, just standing there, defying time with its quiet strength.
