Abandoned church in the mountains

Sant Lleïr de Pobellà is an isolated church in the Pallars Jussà comarca of Spain, situated at an elevation of 1505 meters above sea level in the ancient district of Mont-ros, near the village of Pobellà. The church, known as Sant Lleïr de Pobellà, is a primitive Romanesque structure, possibly with elements predating the year 1000. Surprisingly, there are no known written records of the church, though evidence of a nearby settlement from the 9th or 10th century has been found.

The church has a rectangular nave with a semi-circular apse to the east, and it appears to be closed, compared to the nave, with a wall that leaves a very narrow passage to the presbytery. Large rectangular slabs have been found around the church, which were likely the usual tombstones in medieval necropolises. The church, though abandoned, seems to have been intentionally hidden away, tucked away in the mountains for reasons unknown.
