Abandoned Church Hidden in the Mountains

Sant Sadurní de Cuberes is an abandoned church located in the mountains of Catalonia, Spain. The church is in the village of Cuberes, which belongs to Bajo Pallars. Sant Sadurní de Cuberes is an old parochial church in Romanesque style. The church originally had a single nave with a triple-absided chancel, forming a cross-shaped plan. Documentation of Sant Sadurní de Cuberes dates back to 1105, and it was confirmed by Pope Alexander III in 1164. The abandonment of the village at Cuberes in the early 18th century, following the War of the Spanish Succession, led to the premature ruin of Sant Sadurní de Cuberes. Today, it stands as a silent sentinel overlooking the ghostly remains of the former Castell.
