Strolling Portland's Urban Jungle: A Wet and Wondersome Walk Through Time

Forget the usual Rose City attractions – cheese carts and java joints. Try a refreshing detour with Urban Hydrology, following the watery tales of twelve intricate granite sculptures along the bustling Portland Transit Mall.

Wander off the beaten path in Portland and you'll find Urban Hydrology, an urban landscape delight hidden along the Portland Transit Mall. This collection of 12 handcrafted, 5 ft by 5 ft by 1 ft granite statues is more than just art – each towering piece draws inspiration from local water diatoms and bears the name of its microscopic lookalike. Unveiled in 2009, Urban Hydrology is a testament to Portland's strong water heritage. Take a pit stop at the heart of the City of Portland and Multnomah County Public Art Collection – the Transit Mall – and be drawn into this unique sight worth seeing! The project, a creation of Brazilian artist Fernanda D’Agostino, is all about sustainability, featuring native plants and bioswales in its design.
