The Taras Shevchenko monument, constructed in 1973, represents a captivating and intriguing sculptural homage to the writer. Commissioned by the Italian sculptor Ugo Macéi, the statue depicts the author as a Roman patrician, as per the original design. Inaugurated in 1973, the unique monument stands proudly before the Greek Catholic St. Sophia Cathedral, one of the most remarkable churches in Rome. Although the monument was unveiled more than half a century ago, it remains one of the most unusual and compelling sculptural representations of the writer.
