National Historic Landmark Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, serves as a major venue for college football and soccer, hosting international competitions and the UCLA Bruins since 1982.

The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, is a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark. It opened in October 1922 and was dedicated officially on January 1, 1923. Located at Rose Bowl Drive 1001, the stadium is 10 miles (16 km) north-northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

The stadium is a major venue for the annual Rose Bowl Game and has served as the home stadium of the UCLA Bruins football team since 1982. Five Super Bowl games have been played at the venue, making it the third most frequent host of the event. The stadium has also hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final, the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup Final, and the gold medal match of the 1984 Summer Olympics. It is scheduled to host both the men's and women's soccer gold medal matches at the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The city of Pasadena owns the stadium and the adjacent Brookside Golf and Country Club, with management by the Rose Bowl Operating Company. Architect Myron Hunt designed the stadium in 1921, drawing influence from the Yale Bowl. The Arroyo Seco was selected as the location for the stadium, and construction began on February 27, 1922. While originally built as a horseshoe, the southern stands were completed in 1928 to enclose the stadium into a complete bowl.

Over the years, the stadium has undergone numerous reconfigurations. Original wooden benches were replaced with aluminum in 1969, and new grandstand seats were installed in 1971. A major renovation and improvement were conducted for the 1984 Summer Olympics and UCLA's 1982 move. More recently, a large LED video display board was added to the north end, and a statue of Jackie Robinson was dedicated in 2017 at the Court of Champions.
