A 10th Century Arab Watchtower

The Torre de Agrón, located in Agrón, is a tenth-century Arab watchtower. The only standing one among numerous ones in this area, it offers a view of the territory of the ancient Quempe and the area of the river Cacín. The tower, on a circular base 60 centimeters high, is octagonal, with sides between 2.00 and 2.10 meters long. Built from medium-sized stones held together with lime mortar, the tower has a diameter of 2.05-2.00-2.10-2.10-2.10-2.05-2.05-2.05 meters. It is declared a cultural monument, both by the Spanish State and by the Andalusian Junta. The declaration as a cultural monument dates back to 5th May 1949. The tower is located on a property owned by a private farm, so prior permission is required to visit it.
