The 1855 Bristol Ferry Light in Rhode Island

Built in 1855, this two-story square brick lighthouse in Bristol, Rhode Island, once assisted ferry service across Narragansett Bay before the Mount Hope Bridge was built in 1927.

The Bristol Ferry Light is a historic lighthouse located on the shores of Narragansett Bay at Bristol Point. Situated at the northern land point of Mount Hope Bay at the base of the Mount Hope Bridge, the two-story square brick lighthouse was constructed in 1855 along with an attached 1-1/2-story brick keeper's house.

Before the construction of the Mount Hope Bridge, a ferry operated between Bristol and Aquidneck Island, and the light assisted that ferry service. Its use was discontinued in 1927 when the bridge was completed and a replacement automated beacon was established across Ferry Road.

The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, at which time it was being used as a private residence.
