Are you thinking of the popular character from the Game of Thrones? Wrong! The pub was actually named after a physician who lived in the area in the 19th century. During the cholera outbreak, he was the first one to guess that contaminated water, not air, spread the disease. The Broad Street water pump helped him to make this discovery.
