Almost every Swede knows Martin Beck. He is a fictional Swedish police detective, the main character in a series of ten novels by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, collectively titled The Story of a Crime. All of the novels have been adapted into films between 1967 and 1994. The books and the TV series were extremely popular in Sweden. They were also acknowledged internationally: BBC has adapted the series for radio and began broadcasting the adaptions in October 2012 under the umbrella title of The Martin Beck Killings.
The famous detective lived here, in the Old Town. This is how his place is described in one of the books: “Martin Beck lived in Köpmangatan in the Old City, as close to the middle of Stockholm as one could get.
