Residential platforms were used by less wealthy inhabitants who built their homes from wood and other quickly deteriorating materials, but at the same time were affluent enough to live within the city walls and have protection from flooding during rain. These platforms can be found throughout Tulum. Although they vary in size, architecturally they are all very similar: a low, single-level foundation, usually with steps for entry.
