The White Lady (Vita Frun) of the Royal Palace is one of the most famous ghosts in Stockholm. She wears a white long dress, white veil and black gloves, and she carries a chain of keys. She walks through the halls, the clink of her keys causing a shock of dread. She is a harbinger of death and when she appears someone in the royal family dies. In March 1871 princess Eugenie sees her and three days later queen Lovisa dies. She shows up in the palace again in 1907, and king Oskar II dies. In 1920 it’s princess Margareta’s turn. The Grey Man, who lives in the oldest basement vault in the palace, is less dangerous. According to the legend it’s Birger Jarl himself - the founder of Stockholm and the Tre Kronor royal palace - who is watching over his creations. The question is whether he is also behind the strange and unexplained sounds that you can sometimes hear coming from the guest quarters of the palace.
