The Pink House (La Maison Rose) is one of the most photographed places in Montmartre. The house became famous thanks to Maurice Utrillo who depicted it in several of his paintings. But it was not always pink!
One morning on his way back home after a party a young and then unknown artist Maurice Utrillo said to his friends: “Look, I think this house should be pink!”. The friends loved the idea, found the paint and before the owner could say a word the house became pink.
This story might be true or not. But the bar in the Pink House was indeed frequented by many artists, including Picasso, Albert Camus, and Maurice Utrillo himself.
