The one and only Paris vineyard

Rue des Saules, 75018 Paris, France

This secluded vineyard at the foot of the Montmartre hill is the only one remaining in Paris. It was created by the City of Paris in 1933 in order to preserve the area. In the old days there was a Benedictine abbey here, demolished during the French Revolution. The original vineyard belonged to the abbey, while the first grapevine is believed to have been planted here by the Romans.

Despite its modest size (0.15 hectares)  the vineyard produces 27 varieties of wine and over 1,500 bottles per year. All proceeds go to charity.

The vineyard of Montmartre is closed for public, but you can see it through the gate in Rue des Saules. There is a festival in October called La FĂȘte des Vendanges which takes place on the vineyard grounds and throughout Montmartre. It is the one time during the year when visitors are allowed to the property.
