The Kurakin Almshouse is an architectural monument built in Pavlovsk by architect Leone Adamini at the request of Prince Alexei Kurakin to provide shelter and a dignified life with full state support for disabled veterans of the Patriotic War of 1812. This idea came to the prince in 1819, construction of the building began in 1820, and the first residents moved in in 1821. By 1831, the almshouse was home to 16 war heroes — officers and enlisted men.
After the death of the prince and his wife, the building passed into the ownership of their heirs. Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich intended to house the hospital of the Exemplary Cavalry Regiment in the building by purchasing the Kurakins' property. However, the deal did not go through; in 1836, part of the premises was rented out to a braid manufacturing factory, and in 1838 the building came into the possession of the manufactory advisor Tribaudino.
In 1842–1843, the building underwent major reconstruction. In 1912, the Trubaudino heirs sold the house to State Councilor Reiter. In 1917, the house was nationalized by the Soviet government.
In the 1930s, the building housed a city polyclinic, which in the 1940s–1960s became a city hospital.
Since 1967, the house was transferred to the House of Pioneers and Schoolchildren, which in the 1990s was renamed the House of Youth Creativity of Pavlovsk. It currently houses the State Budgetary Educational Institution of Additional Education for Children of the Pushkin District of Saint Petersburg, the Pavlovsky House of Children's Creativity.
